How To Make Decisions For Success
Your life is influenced by the decisions and the choices you
make. It is never by the compulsion of life. Under compulsion, you are likely
to make the right decision but when you have choices to make, that is where the
real test is.
Isaiah
30:21
You will
hear a voice behind you saying, “This is the way. Follow it, whether it turns
to the right or to the left.”
Whatever you are experiencing in your life today is as a
result of the decisions you made yesterday, whether rightly or wrongly. And the
beauty or sufferings in your future will be determined by your decisions today.
As a Christian, God has given us a pattern and the tools to
make the right decisions at all time. This life is more spiritual. The physical
is included in the spiritual and not understanding this may likely put you in a
position to go for the fleshy things.
For example, how would you know which job to take when faced with two choices? This is not directly written in the bible, but you can discern by the power of the Holy Spirit. Because if you make your decision based on salary alone or proximity to your home or whatever physical substance attracted you, you may be taking a job that will take you out of God's purpose for your life.
Reading 2 Corinthians 4: 18 from the American Standard
version “while we look not at the
things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things
which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal”.
The things you can relate with using your sensory perception
are temporary; they are not built to last. So, whatever decisions you made
using these tools will only last for a while, and then you are back to where
you started.
But using the word of God to direct the affairs of your life
places you at a level where, even though things seem to be tough on the
outside, they will all work together for your good.
There is nothing you want to make decisions about that has
not been talked about in the bible. If you don’t find it as an instruction, you
will see a pattern.
And God himself wants you to choose rightly so that you and
your generation may live. God won’t
force you to make the right one; He will always present you choices to make.
But He can help you choose right so you may live.
Deuteronomy 30:19 says, “"Today
I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and
curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that
you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live!”
The other part is finding out how to make the right decision
using God’s word. In Iohn 14: 26 (AMP), Jesus told us that “But the [a]Helper
(Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy
Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me
and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things. And He will help you
remember everything that I have told you”.
To
make this right decision, you need the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit can direct
your thought, bring God’s word to you and guide you in the path that you should
go. Jesus called him our helper and many
synonyms of this word include – counselor and standby (John 14:26).
As a
Christian, the Holy Spirit is for your advantage. Hear what Isaiah 30:21 said
about Him;
“You will hear a voice behind you saying, “This is
the way. Follow it, whether it turns to the right or to the left.”
If
you want to make the kind of progress that God has in mind for you when you
were born, you need the Holy Spirit to help you. And if you listen to him, you
will always make the right decision.
