Do Not Neglect Your Days Of Little Beginning As A Startup 


Zechariah 4:10am – For who hath despised the day of small things?


 This article or post is more for every Christian startup, and everyone trying to build anything for the advancement of human and by extension the kingdom of God.

As you start out, do not neglect the days of little beginnings. The days that you do not have any customer, user or motivation, do not give up.

Yes, it is hard. Yes, it is painful that your friends who you left school together are now relaxed and enjoying life with peace of mind, and here you are hustling it out with very little hope of what the future holds for your company.

Still, don’t fret.

This is the time to keep thanking God for giving you this opportunity to even think of contributing to the advancement of the world, create something that will benefit mankind, and be an employer of labour in a world where people would rather be employed.

That is something to be proud of. And yes, I can hear you ask ‘what’s the use of all that if it doesn’t result in consistent cash flow, revenue growth, and profitability?’

This is the good news; it is rare to find a business that became profitable right from the beginning. It took them some time to even get enough users or customer for them to start getting some cash flow.

 This is what I will ask that you do instead, take a reality stock of your startup and do a sincere analysis of it. You might just need to adjust something whether, in the design, your pricing, your marketing strategy, the team or you need to either shut it down to do something else or pivot into something else.

And those months you spent trying to figure out how to make things work, are times of learning for you. Like someone said, “you can only learn about business by doing business”; I agree.

Another thing you would need to do is subscribe or follow those people who have gone your path or building some stuff just like you’re doing. And ensure you follow and read up your local blogs and newsletters in your industry.

What you will learn is enormous; from founders like: 

- Tech founders: Jason Njoku of iRoko TV, Mark Essien of Hotels.ng

- Media: John Momoh of Channels TV, 

- Sales & Marketing: Grant Cardone, Gary Vee, Seth Godin 

- Platforms: Techcabal.com, Techpoint.com, Medium.com, Growthackers.com, YouTube, Businessinsider.com 

- And some direct contact and timeout with your mentors and from events.

The list cannot be exhausted.

There are days, as a startup founder, that you would just have to shut out any form of work from your life, and just relax by educating your mind. Many have found this method to be productive and help them bounce back into productivity.


So, don’t be afraid to take such a day off or feel guilty that you are not doing anything at that moment.

Also, don’t forget the place of gratitude. Appreciate where you are right now even as you plan for your next phase – 10m-user growth, 100m revenue or VC investment. Be happy where you are right now if not, you will hit those metrics and still find yourself being worried and still in the same place where you were before hitting those desired goals.

 Caveat: I did not write this to tell you what to do or how to grow your startup, for I myself, am still finding my own path.
