How To Increase Your Faith
Luke 17:5: And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith
Have you ever been in a position that you knew you just have to move from where you are to a new level? Many of us can relate with this because it is natural for the human to desire growth.
The issue often is, we do not know what to do. That is the same dilemma the apostles found themselves. After failing to perform a miracle, they felt the faith they have is not enough to get them to Christ’ level.
Hence, the request from the apostles for the Lord Jesus should help them increase their faith.
Like I have said in our earlier posts, the faith in small seed size you received at salvation is meant for planting so it can grow. That small faith can’t take you all the way even though it can move mountains. (Romans 10:8-10)
Ask any farmer you know, it is too dangerous for them to eat their seed. They plant it so they can have more seed and harvest.
If they did eat their seed, what they are saying is ‘we do not desire a harvest’, and that is the same thing you would be saying if you don’t plant that small size faith seed.
The question is ‘what do you harvest when you’ve not sown? There will be no harvest because you ate your seed.
To increase your faith just like the disciples desired, and asked Jesus to help them increase it; here is the master’s response:
”If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea, and it should obey you” (Luke 17:6)
Reading the statement of Jesus again and the request from the apostles, you’ll find out the disciples thought it was Jesus’ responsibility to increase their faith while Jesus response showed it was theirs.
Jesus answer implied that as a Christian, you already have the small mustard seed size kind of faith, and with this, you can achieve an even great result. But, to see a greater result, you’d have to plant the seed and grow it.
In Matthew 17:20, Jesus said “… and nothing shall be impossible unto you.”
Prior to asking Jesus for the increase of their faith, Jesus said in Luke 17:3-4 about forgiveness. And in the next verse, the disciples were requesting an increase in their faith.
This is no coincidence that forgiveness and faith go together.
To live a God life, you must learn to live the faith life, and like Mark 9:23 says, “if thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth”.
Romans 10:17 say, “so then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God”.
Right in that verse is the ‘how’ to sow the seed of your tiny faith and grow it big and strong. It is simply by hearing the word of God perpetually. You should consume the word continuously and apply it continually.
Begin to increase your faith today, make it big and strong so you can handle bigger matters, and God can trust you with more and bigger responsibilities.
