The Wilderness Noise

Finding yourself alone in your own wilderness
It is said of every great leader and everyone that has amounted to something great or accomplished something great, always at one point find themselves at a place where they’re all alone, where nothing seems to be working and there is stagnation. They’re at their own wilderness.

As much as we know that with great tribulation comes great success, the place of wilderness has consumed a lot of people. It is not a place of normal life-pressure. It is not something that works within, it is seen also on the outside. Everyone looking at you sees the effect. When people look at you, all they see is the suffering you’re going through. They will have sympathy but no compassion.

For instance, a person’s wilderness could be that growth – business or personal life, has remained stagnated. At times, it could be that there’s no increase and there’s no decrease, the person stays at one spot. Also, there’s the no increase but consistent decrease like famine. Everything just keep sinking no matter all the strategy and principles they’ve learnt at church and applied.

It’s not a place where we want to be. It’s not a place we desire to be and definitely not the type of temptation we anticipate.

Looking at the occurrence in the life of Job in the Bible, he went from very great to really insignificant. The bible recorded that he lost his entire valuable in almost the twinkling of an eye, and not just his property and businesses, all his children also.

He was afflicted with a deadly sickness so much that his wife asked him to curse God so he can just die and save himself from this misery.

The place of wilderness is very lonely. Nobody walks with you into that part of your life. It’s an “All-Man-For-Himself” journey and place. For Job, it was only four of his friends that stood with him, but in criticism and judgment. Every other person including his wife and those he had helped left him alone. The bible recorded that after he recovered, these people came back into his life.

We have lots of examples in the Bible and in life. It happened to David, Moses, Jeremiah, Jacob, Jesus Christ, Mandela, etc.

However, the wilderness experience is not one of those experiences that you should just allow to waste. I agree that the experience that is so brutal that it has broken a lot of people but at the same time it made others great. An example would be – writing this book that you’re reading in the wilderness. Many people only survive this with bruises and torn shirts, but with experiences that will last them a lifetime.

If David had taken the easy way, he wouldn’t be king, and all the beautiful Psalms we read and sing today wouldn’t have existed. If Joseph had seen an opportunity in Potiphar’s wife, he wouldn’t have been Prime Minister.

It happened to Jesus Christ our saviour, at one point in his ministry he was willing to give up the journey and prayed to God asking if the cup can pass over him. And he was alone at this point in his journey, none of his disciples was there, even Peter.

The bible said because of the glory that should follow, Jesus Christ endured the suffering of the cross.

There are definite successes that should happen in your life, the Quantum Leap type, which only passing through the wilderness can produce. You can’t get it any other way.

Mandela had to be imprisoned and incarcerated alone for South Africa to be free. It wasn’t a choice place but it was a necessary place for what is about to come.

When you’re in the wilderness, you will get many noises – noise from your surroundings and environment, noise from within you shouting. Many options of escape will arise and be presented to you. Even well-meaning friends or relatives will show you alternatives so you can at least survive.

What you do at this point will determine a lot about your future – if you will live and be an inspiration or you will live and be a story.

Sometimes, the Spirit of God would bring it to you – warn you, so you can anticipate it. At other times, it will just come on you. However it happened, it is meant by the enemy for evil but God will turn around for your good, if you let Him.

It can also be as a result of your wrong, not obeying God’s instruction and it can be “Nothing Wrong”,

If you’re passing through the wilderness right now, I would say you don’t lose focus on God’s word. The following can help you stay focus and strong:

-       Keep reading the bible and other Christian and developmental materials
-       Keep praying in tongues and the word
-       Write out a confession and read it to yourself always
-       Don’t hate those who are not there with you
-       Make a vow to God

It is very important to mention, you must not allow the pressure and noise to stop you from gaining the necessary development, training, and education you may need. That is why you must read books, listen to audio or podcast, watch videos, and attend conferences.

What can I say? Happy Wilderness Journey. And See you at your next level of glory.
