The Deliverance Before The Resurrection

Why do we need deliverance? And how did we get into the dead-end position we now find ourselves where deliverance is required to bring us out?

Looking at Psalms 107:17; “fools because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted”. We are reminded in the book of Lamentations 3:39 that; “Wherefore doth a living man complain, a man for the punishment of his sins?”

It’s a common place for us to try and make ourselves believe that we don’t know why or how we got to where we are, why we are afflicted. But doing a deep thoughtful search, we truly know. It is always because we didn’t hearken to God, and we tend to have behaved with a hardened heart. It is either God instructed us in the way to go or he nudged us by His Spirit in the things we should or should not do.

And when we didn’t follow through the instruction, we expect mercy and grace to bail us out, and do not want to face the consequence of our actions.

The Psalmist made a profound statement in verses 43 of Psalms 107; “Whoso is wise and will observe these things, even they shall understand the loving-kindness of the Lord”.

What to do when you find yourself wanting/needing deliverance:

If for whatever reason, you find yourself in this affliction quarters and need deliverance there is always a way out. You got there by not hearkening, now you will get out by doing the exact opposite – hearken.

The reason you’re in the position you are in is that you didn’t obey His words, and apparently to get out, you have to repent, ask for His mercy and decide to hearken to His words.

That’s the only way he will bring you out and take you in. Psalms 107:20 say “He sent His word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destruction”.

When these words come, there are specific things you must do with them. Psalms 107:22 gave us the clue:

"And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his works with rejoicing."

Yeah! Through Thanksgiving and Declare his works with rejoicing.

This means you can’t complain your way out of an affliction. You are already deep in it, now God is asking you to offer the sacrifice of Thanksgiving and give Him the glory of all the wonders of His works He has done in your life.

If you do these things, then and only then will you experience Psalms 107:30, which says “Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven”.

Psalms 50:14 confirm it again; “you should offer God Thanksgiving and pay your vows, and you will call Him, He will deliver you and you shall glorify Him”.

When Joshua started his ministry after the death of Moses, the first thing God told him was to be very courageous, and in Joshua 1:8 God showed him how:

“The Book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth…you shall meditate therein day and night…then you shall have good success”

For in doing so, God said that’s the way to make your way prosperous and to have good success.

What this means is that the power to get out of the rut is YOU. You hold the key. Whenever you are ready to get out and start a new and improved life, God is ready to deliver.

What we need to do is ask as David did; “open my eyes that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law” – Psalms 119:18-19.

For when you get this word and take it to God in prayer with thanksgiving, praise and worship, your deliverance is certain.

Remember, the word has to be in your mouth consistently speaking it at all times without wavering like a double-minded man.
